What is an Umbrella Company

Simply put, an Umbrella Company is an entity which acts an intermediary between a sub-contractor and its contractor. The Umbrella Company employs the worker and fulfils all the PAYE requirements. As far as the Contractor is concerned they are simply invoice for every week the worker works on their site.

Under strict CIS regulation many companies are falling short of the required relationship between the contractor and its sub-contractors.

A worker should not in any way be treated like an employee and should maintain his/her self-employed status.

Companies who are unable to ensure this simple requirement of the CIS regulation must consider an Umbrella Company for its payroll or else they are risking prosecution and heavy fines.
